Ticket Details For Sydney

Posted: 19th June, 2010

Hello Hello & G'Day Bears,

ORSA was unable to secure a block booking of tickets so please follow the link Ticketek and choose 'Rangers Supporters' tickets. These tickets have to be booked individually for each day you plan to attend.

DO NOT BOOK TICKETS WITH THE 3 DAY TOURNEY PASS AS YOU WILL NOT BE WITH RANGERS FANS.

Details of the ORSA bear HQ pub should hopefully be announced by this weekend and will be in the first edition of the ORSA Tour newsletter which will be available early next week to all those who have registered on the site.

Thanks for your patience and support during this period.

Rangers coming to Australia

Posted: 6th June, 2010

Fresh off winning the Hyundai A-League 2010 domestic double, Sydney FC will now test their mettle against some of Europe’s biggest clubs when they take part in the Festival of Football International Club Tournament in July.

Taking place exclusively at the Sydney Football Stadium, the Sky Blues will face the Blackburn Rovers (English Premier League), Glasgow Rangers (Scottish Premier League Champions) and Greek team AEK Athens FC (11 times Greek Champions) in a round robin tournament.

The exciting football concept will feature six round robin matches with competition points accumulated for winning matches and scoring goals. Three (3) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) point for a draw and one (1) point for every goal scored.

The schedule will see two afternoon matches played on Sunday 25 July, two night matches on Wednesday 28 July and two further night matches on Saturday 31 July.

Sunday 25 July:
Game 1 at 12:45pm – Sydney FC v AEK Athens FC
Game 2 at 3pm – Blackburn Rovers v Glasgow Rangers

Wednesday 28 July:
Game 3 at 6pm – AEK Athens FC v Blackburn Rovers
Game 4 at 8:15pm – Sydney FC v Glasgow Rangers

Saturday 31 July:
Game 5 at 5pm – AEK Athens FC v Glasgow Rangers
Game 6 at 7:15pm – Sydney FC v Blackburn Rovers

And the good news doesn’t stop there - with tickets starting at just $29. Each ticket is valid for both games on that specific day and are available from Ticketek.

All current Sydney FC members will also receive discounted ticketing. On sale dates will be confirmed soon.

"This inaugural tournament is the first of what will be an annual tournament in Sydney to attract global football brands each and every year,” said Kristina Keneally, NSW Premier.

“There is no secret Sydney wants to hold the World Cup final and this event will make a strong statement about Sydney as Australia’s home of Football. I would like to extend an invitation to the Scottish, English and Greek communities located across Australia. Book a ticket to Sydney and cheer on your teams.”

Sydney FC CEO Edwin Lugt said the new tournament is a great addition to the Sydney sporting calendar.

“We have agreed with the promoter to be able to provide 2010/11 Sydney FC members with discounted ticketing for this tournament. We have a sensational line-up of preseason fixtures confirmed. This tournament is massive for our fans. The fact that we are A-League champions on top of playing such strong European opposition at our home ground is fantastic,” Lugt said.

“It’s a credit to the NSW Government for supporting this tournament and we are very excited to watch it grow.”

Lugt was joined by Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka, players Alex Brosque, Terry McFlynn and Liam Reddy, Events NSW CEO Geoff Parmenter, FFA CEO Ben Buckley and SCG Trust CEO Jamie Barkley at this morning’s launch.

Please take time to visit the ORSA website www.oceaniarsa.com and register to recieve further information as and when it gets released.

Business as usual for Setanta Australia

Posted: 16th July, 2009

Administrators are looking for a buyer for the Australian arm of pay TV sports channel Setanta, after its UK parent operation went into receivership yesterday.

Ex-pats in Britain hoping to catch last night's history-making State of Origin match were left high and dry after the Republic of Ireland-based company went bust after failing to attract enough viewers.

But Setanta Australia general manager Conor Woods says it will be business as usual in Australia, where Setanta has the rights to screen soccer's UEFA Cup as well as matches from England, Scotland, and Germany.

The channel also screens cricket, boxing, Gaelic football and European rugby games.

"We're not in administration, along with the other international Setanta channels which are Ireland, Canada, the USA and Africa," Mr Woods said today.

"I wouldn't describe it (the Australian operation) as being in financial trouble at all. The statement from the receivers is that they are not putting the other businesses in administration, because they are going concerns.

"They are in discussions with partners to take on those businesses."

But Mr Woods said he could not comment on whether there would be trouble if administrators Deloitte failed to find any buyers.

UK Setanta also had rights to regular NRL season matches, which Mr Woods says would now be in the process of being sold off.

"The UK business has gone into administration after it was unable to secure funding to continue an operation," he said.
"It's rights agreements in the UK have come to an end, the English Premier League rights have already been resold, and the other rights agreements in the UK would be in the process of being resold."

But he told ABC News Online all agreements in Australia are safe.

"All the rights agreements are directly with the Australian business, so none of our rights agreements are affected," he said.

CBD Venues Old Firm

Posted: 8th May, 2009

Hi Ray,

In case anyone gets in touch and asks,
This weekend's game will be shown in Pugg Mahones in Hardware Street in the city.

Downstairs bar is reserved for Rangers fans only from 9pm.

Aberdeen game on 16th will be on in Charles Dickens Tavern in Collins St

If the title goes down to the wire and there's enough interest, Pugg Mahones will open to show the Dundee Utd game on the last day. I will get in touch with the manager nearer the time and gauge interest as they are usually closed on a Sunday and would be opening especially to show the game.

I'll be away until the 1st June so will be trying to arrange things by email when I get access

Cheers
Karen

BUshfire Appeal

Posted: 21st February, 2009

Hello! Hello!

Please find attached a copy of the brochure for the MGRSC 25th and ORSA 5th Anniversary Celebration Convention to be held in Frankston in a couple of weeks March 6-8th 2009.

I also enclose a book of tickets for you to buy or sell on behalf of the Victorian Bushfire Victims. All proceeds from the sale of these tickets have been endorsed by and will be passed on to the Australian Red Cross Bushfire Appeal on your behalf. Newall Marine Services have kindly donated a Gasmate 6 burner stainless steel BBQ to be offered as the prize. We have joined forces with Club 27 and the Peninsula Strikers to sell 2,000 tickets by the Convention weekend, where the raffle will be drawn.

Please make and effort to sell these tickets as the victims of these horrendous fires will need our help for years to come in rebuilding their lives and communities.

This raffle is not about receiving but is all about giving to the victims of the 2009 Victorian bushfires.

Ticket stubs and the money raised should be returned by Friday 6th March 2009. The club will be open that night for the convention celebrations. If you need any more books, please let me know and I will get them to you.

If you feel like donating direct to the Appeal without buying a ticket there will be donation form that will be available on the night which will allow a tax deduction, the Red Cross will send you a receipt for your donations. Unfortunately raffle ticket payments are currently not tax deductible.

If you have not booked your place at the convention please take this opportunity to do so by completing the section in the brochure and sending it in to me or simply pick up the phone and give me a call.

We will have several signed RFC shirts available for Auction at the convention.

We at the MGRSC thank you for your continued support and we hope to see you all at the convention weekend; surely you can make it to one of the events if not all. Make a weekend of it as it is the holiday weekend, and let’s celebrate our achievement together.

Yours Sincerely

Leigh-Anne Newall
Secretary MGRSC

Have competed in European competitions in more seasons than any other British club, 46 times as of and including 2006-07.
